Fluoride will be added to Erie's drinking water starting Oct. 27, six months after voters here approved the additive.

The town of 16,000 is one of just a few remaining communities in Colorado that doesn't fluoridate its water supply, and the issue passed by fewer than 100 votes.

Over the summer, Kansas City-based Burns and McDonnell Engineering Co. built an addition to Erie's water treatment plant -- including a tank, pump and monitoring equipment -- that will allow fluoride to be added to the water supply.
